Bladder Lift (Anterior Colporrhaphy)

Concomitant Procedures

  • Rectocele Repair or Perineoplasty if there is also vaginal laxity or a bulge from the back wall of the vagin
  • Incontinence Procedure such as Bulkamid or Mid-Urethral Sling Surgery if there is also urinary leakage in addition to a dropped bladder
  • Apical Suspension if the uterus is also dropped

What to Expect

  • Surgery is about one hour in an ambulatory surgery center
  • You go home the same day and can ambulate immediately after the procedure
  • Nothing in the vagina for six weeks after the surgery until all the sutures have healed
  • Avoid straining and heavy lifting for the first 4-6 weeks
  • You can continue low impact exercise such as walking and pilates immediately after surgery
  • Avoid travel for the first two weeks after surgery
  • Avoid swimming pools, baths, saunas, steam rooms for 6 weeks after surgery
  • Pain is minimal and there can be vaginal spotting for a few days to weeks from the suture line
